Bringing the Gulf Oil Spill Home

July 28, 2012

On the heels of the BP oil disaster in the Gulf, the stage was set to drive a national conversation about the risks associated with oil and gas development. Spotlighting the spills and accidents in every state, and their impacts on water, wildlife, health and communities, has helped bring the devastation in the Gulf closer to home. The Denver Post reported that there had been more than 2,000 spills in less than two years in Colorado; and a CBS News report documented details of accidents across the country. These stories help make the case that we need stronger regulations to prevent accidents and tougher penalties when accidents do happen.
