Associate Director
Resource Media is looking for an experienced communications professional with demonstrated management experience to join a fast-paced, growing non-profit communications firm dedicated to protecting the environment and improving public health. This is a new position, offering candidates the opportunity to help a highly motivated, talented staff build an organization that is making a real difference.
About Resource Media:
Resource Media provides strategic communications and media outreach services to a diverse group of clients ranging from campaign organizations to individuals working to protect the environment and improve public health. Our staff of 25 has helped shape media coverage of environmental issues in national, regional and local outlets, across all types of media platforms. We have a $3.5 million budget supported by foundation grants and contracts with non-profit clients. Resource Media has offices in Seattle, San Francisco, Sacramento, Bozeman and Kalispell, Montana, and Boulder, Colorado.
Job Description:
Resource Media seeks an Associate Director to lead our work in California.
Responsibilities
The Associate Director will manage up to 6 staff and will have the following range of responsibilities:
Program Planning and Oversight
- Work with partners and staff under your direction to develop and execute winning communications strategies.
- Allocate resources and set priorities to ensure program work meets Resource Media’s high standards.
- Take a direct role in creating press materials and conducting media outreach.
Budget Oversight and Reporting
- Manage budgets for program work under your direction.
- Track expenses and allocate staff time against available resources.
- Work with our development department to ensure that grant reports and client deliverables are finalized and delivered on deadline.
Fundraising
- Lead development of our thinking on how to improve our effectiveness in the issue areas under your supervision.
- Help us write strong, persuasive proposals.
- Take a lead role in conducting fundraising/marketing presentations to potential clients and foundation supporters.
Team Collaboration
- Work with senior management and other Resource Media staff as we chart the course of our organization.
- Help foster a collaborative and mutually supportive work atmosphere in our San Francisco office and throughout our organization.
- Help create, direct, and support work teams as necessary to achieve our mission.
Management
- Supervise up to 6 staff
- Set goals and conduct performance reviews
- Help staff that report to you allocate time and set priorities.
- Serve as mentor and sounding board for your direct reports.
Qualifications
- At least 15 years experience in the communications, campaign, or corporate public relations field, with demonstrated management experience.
- Experience in designing, executing, and managing successful public interest communications campaigns.
- Experience working in the non-profit sector desirable.
- Ability to juggle many tasks simultaneously and the ability to set and meet deadlines.
- Track record of successful communications with other staff.
- Successful fundraising and/or business development track-record.
