Mark Valentine, Chair
Mark is the founder of ReFrame It consulting which works with foundations and nonprofit organizations on issues of strategy and structure. Formerly, he was the Director of Cross-Cutting Initiatives for the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. Prior to establishing the Cross-Cutting Initiatives program, which was designed to explore the strategic synergies between the foundation's diverse program areas, Mark served as deputy director of the Packard Foundation’s Conservation Program. Mark joined the Resource Media board in 2004.
Bob Bailey, Secretary
Bob is the Director of Human Resources and Administration for The Haas Jr. Fund. Prior to this, he served as the Associate Director of Human Relations at Tides Center. Bob has extensive management experience in organizational learning and change, team and staff development, performance management, and labor relations. Bob joined the Resource Media board in 2003.
Andy Beers, Director
Andy Beers' career has placed him at the nexus of media and technology. He began his career as a TV news cameraman. He worked his way up in the industry to become the News Director of NBC's Seattle affiliate. He joined Microsoft in 1995 to launch the first online news service on MSN and was one of the key players involved in the launch of MSNBC. Later he led the development of interactive content and features for Microsoft's IPTV platform. More recently he was the driving force behind MSN's entry into the broadband video business, launching MSN Video in 2003. Andy now owns and runs a consulting firm. He advises media and technology companies that are leading the digital media industry. He joined the Resource Media board in 2007.
Barbara Brainard, Director
Barbara Brainard is a partner at Stoel Rives Law Firm focusing on employment litigation and counseling employers on all aspects of employment law disputes. Before joining the firm, she served as lead counsel for SAIF Corporation. Barbara is also a board member for the Volunteers of America, a chairperson for the Oregon Alumni Admission Committee for Middlebury College and a chair of the Oregon/SW Washington Industry Liaison Group. She is a local and national lecturer on employment law issues in professional seminars, academic symposia and college and university classes, and is a contributing author for The Oregon Labor Letter. She received a B.A. from Rutgers University and a J.D. from Willamette University College of Law. Barbara joined the Resource Media board in 2007.
Bill Donnelly, Treasurer
Bill is Director-Investments and Senior Portfolio Management Director with Smith Barney in Seattle. He is also co-founder of The Donnelly-Adams Group, a specialist team dedicated to environmentally and socially responsive investing, for individuals, foundations and endowments. In coordination with the World Bank’s Global Environmental Facility, the United Nations Development Programme, World Wildlife Foundation, Conservation International, The Nature Conservancy, and Wildlife Conservation Society, Bill’s group provides investment consulting to environmental trusts in Africa, South America and Asia. Bill serves several community and environmental organizations and boards including Conservation Northwest and the Washington Environmental Council. He joined the Resource Media board in 2004.
Steven Gilbert, Director
Steven is the Director and Founder of the Institute of Neurotoxicology and Neurological Disorders (INND), has a Ph.D. in toxicology and is a Diplomat of American Board of Toxicology. He is an Affiliate Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Washington. Dr. Gilbert’s research has focused on neurobehavioral effects of low-level exposure to lead and mercury on the developing nervous system. His book, A Small Dose of Toxicology- The Health Effects of Common Chemicals was published in 2004. He recently started the wiki based web site Toxipedia (www.toxipedia.org). He joined the Resource Media board in 2007.
Lawrie Mott, Director
Lawrie is an independent consultant specializing in environmental health issues with particular expertise in children’s environmental health, pesticides, air pollution, drinking water contamination and childhood cancer. From 1982 to 2001, Lawrie was a senior scientist in the San Francisco office of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). Lawrie joined the Resource Media board in 2003 and served as the first board chair from 2003 to 2007.
Rick Ridder, Vice-Chair
Rick is President and Co-founder of RBI Strategy & Research. RBI is an international communications consulting firm providing strategy, research, and planning for political campaigns, not-for-profit organizations, and commercial businesses. Rick possesses extensive experience from both the campaign trail and the consultant’s chair. As the National Campaign Manager for Dean for America in early 2003, he oversaw the campaign as it rose from an asterisk in the polls to a legitimate contender. He has served as a senior consultant for three presidential campaigns and as the National Field Director for two other presidential bids. Internationally, his work in 17 countries includes advising the successful campaigns of four heads of state. He is a past president of the International Association of Political Consultants and a winner of the “Pollie Award” as International Consultant of the Year. Prior to political consulting, Rick was an independent radio and television producer whose programming aired on major networks. He holds an M.S. in Broadcasting from Boston University and a B.S. from Middlebury College. Rick joined the Resource Media board in 2006.
Christine Viera, Director
Christine Viera is a Senior Director of CRM Product Strategy at Oracle. In her role, she manages product strategy for a market-leading portfolio of CRM brands including Siebel CRM, Siebel Professional Edition, and Oracle Fusion CRM. Prior to her career with Oracle and Siebel Systems, Christine spent three years in management strategy as an associate at a Chicago region consulting firm with clients including the City of Chicago, South Shore Bank, and the MacArthur Foundation. She also spent five years driving national issue advocacy campaigns with renowned non-profit organizations including the Children’s Defense Fund, Center for Media Education, and Citizen Action in Washington, DC. Christine holds an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University, and a B.A. from the Cornell University. She joined the Resource Media board in 2007.
