For three decades, Resource Media has advanced communications strategies to address the most urgent issues of our time, fueled by the idea that something far better is within reach for our partners and our communities.
What we sound like and look like has changed over the years, but our core purpose remains constant. These days, we take a far broader view than your traditional communications firm. Allow us to reintroduce ourselves:
Resource Media is a nonprofit creative change agency that emboldens our partners working towards long-term shifts in public opinion, policy, and behavior. We inject fresh energy into movements and causes by telling culturally resonant stories rooted in empathy, respect, and a deep understanding of communities operating on the vanguard of change.
With our new brand, we reaffirm our role working arm-in-arm with our partners, after being deeply embedded in the change movements we have supported for years. At the forefront of all of this are the trust-based relationships we’ve built. Without them, enduring change would not be possible. What is the goal of everything we do? Reimagined possibilities and a future where everyone can experience health, wholeness, justice, and belonging.
Our team blends a wide range of skills and lived experiences. We have backgrounds as organizers, journalists, designers, writers, and agency leaders. We are proudly majority-led and staffed by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) staff with deep expertise in creative, digital, marketing, and strategic communications. Across all our projects, we put our talents to work to build change campaigns that genuinely connect and inspire action. That begins by centering and co-creating strategies with advocates and communities on the ground. Along the way, we share fresh insights to help our partners tell compelling, community-centered stories on their own terms. Not only do these stories inspire action, but they also build durable momentum toward long-term change.
Here’s a bit of lore for those just getting acquainted with Resource Media and those who’ve only met us in recent years: We first opened our doors back in 1998 as Environmental Media Services, a nonprofit that supported conservation advocates through strategic communications. The idea was to counter the outsized influence of fossil fuel interests, who had ample resources to hire savvy spin doctors to reframe negative press, sanitize their clients’ reputation, and actively peddle disinformation. Up against Big Oil, we were a voice for the underdog. In serving this role, we came to realize that the environmental issues we focused on were woven into a broader tapestry of concerns that deserved our attention. We answered the call by building in-house expertise across a much wider array of issues.
Across the full spectrum of the work we do, we know that today’s challenges can feel insurmountable. Yet over the years, Resource Media has been adept at finding fresh ways to tackle stubborn problems. We invite you to explore our new website, check out our new logo and visual identity, and get to know us all over again. We’re proud to be the ones you can call first whenever you’re embarking on something big and complicated. From climate change and abortion, to food justice and public health, so many of the issues we all care about are at a crossroads. We’re ready to be a beacon for you.
